Target Classics

Target is responsible for almost my whole outfit today.  I love some of the classic pieces that will never go out of style.  I LOVE dressing in a trendy way, but don't have the budget to keep up with all of the trends.  I've owned most of this stuff for 3+ years and still wear it.

Cardigan, scarf, tank, shoes: Target
Jeans: Take a guess (if you don't know, see my previous "Fashion" posts - it'll be obvious)

Now let's focus on this necklace for a second.  See it?

The reason this necklace is awesome is because you can switch out the plate!  The necklace comes with three different plates that are magnetic that stick to the back.  Isn't that the coolest thing?

This necklace was given to me by my sweet friend Ashley on my birthday back in the fall.  The company is called Magnabilities.  Here's their website.  How cool is this?  I love it!

Have a great one, ladies, (and yes that is a sled that on a snowless lawn behind me)!

Heidi from Beauty Among Thorns is here!

Hi, I'm Heidi and I want to give you a glimpse into the person God is creating me to be and the work He is going to do through me.  I was once a mess headed down a destructive road, but He brought me back to the right path, He brought good from my bad decisions and made me a "Beauty Among Thorns" so I ...could go share with other girls their beauty in Christ. I discovered the beauty that he created me to be, and that's why I like to make messy, old items into something beautiful. From your trash to my treasure. From old, antiqued to my inspiration. God takes the pain and thorns of our lives and creates beauty, and turns tears into pearls.

A few years back, I took a trip to LONDON....the place where a new dream was birthed. I saw all these beautiful mirrors walking the streets at night and the more I walked and talked, the more the idea formed.

So many girls, including myself, have such an ugly view of themselves. I first had the idea to take old mirrors and create them into something beautiful so girls would have something beautiful to look into and my prayer is they would start to see themselves as something beautiful because although mess was never in God's original plan, God loves the mess so He can create something beautiful from the mess. Like the verse says "Like a lily among the thorns, so is my darling maiden." Song of Songs 2:2
If we were created in the image of God then we must be beautiful. We look into mirrors daily if not several times daily and so often we have this ugly view of ourselves but we were fearfully and wonderfully made by the Creator of all beautiful things. My inspiration is to make these so young girls can say, "I am not ugly, I am beautiful. I am unique like every piece on this mirror. I am perfectly made by a God who loves me more than words can describe. I was bought for a price. I was searched and sought after. I am treasured. I am worth far more than rubies. I am priceless. There is no one else like me. I am a lily among the thorns."

From the mirrors, my ideas for accessories expanded to all kinds of accessories with the same message:  Tears into pearls.  Trash into treasure.  Beauty from a mess.

Some of my creations:
Women's casual hat

Thanks for listening to my story, and I hope you will check out my shop sometime.

Fun and Different

Found this little gem at Goodwill.  I've been on the lookout for button-down shirts to use for layering or just to wear on those days where I want something with more structure.

I spotted this one and loved the colors but almost didn't buy it because it was a little big.  For $3.99, how can you go wrong, though!  I picked it up, and attempted to put together a look.  I considered belting it like I do so many things, but (a) it didn't look right and (b) there can be far too much of a good thing sometimes.

I decided just to embrace the looseness, put a long-sleeved brown shirt underneath, and run with it.  It was a win.

Only got one shot with the regular camera, but snapped these two with the iphone later:

It's fun to grab something a little different what you normally wear when it's a great price.  Try it if you have the opportunity.

Come back this Friday with all of your OUTFITS, RECIPES, or D.I.Y. PROJECTS where you made it FAB.

Hope to see you then!

DRAB TO FAB CHALLENGE

It’s here!

This is the day we see all of YOUR great ways to outsmart your clothing.   That is, accessorize, layer, scarf, belt, or do whatever you need to do to make that thing you didn’t think was wearable into something you sported proudly.

For a refresher, here is the outfit I had posted:

I turned my ill-fitting (too loose) black and white striped shirt into fab by belting it and adding a pop of color and cuteness over the undesirable turtleneck top.  Looks mighty fine now, wouldn’t you say?

Let's see what you other lovely ladies did, shall we?

The lovely Lisa from MOMMA’S ME TIME took two tanks that sat in the back of her closet and layered them together under a cardi and belt to sport them in the colder weather.  She took what she just wasn’t wearing as individual pieces and made them work by layering.  You go Lisa!

Check out how Elyssa from I CREATE BEAUTY took a jacket she wasn’t wearing because it was too short and paired it with a longer blue tunic that she didn’t know what to wear with to create this adorable look.  Find out what she did to resolve the jeans problem by clicking on her link!

Stacy from The Other Pocket is as cute as a button sporting her grandfather’s sweater.  She turned a simple sweater that was not coming off of any runway and paired it with some adorable shoes and a scarf of a complimenting color to create this effortlessly cool look.

The adorable and PREGGO Erin from LOVING AND LIVING LIFE WITH MY BOYS took one of the many pre-pregnancy shirts that become unbecoming as the tummy grows and grows, layered it with a pop of red underneath, and layered it underneath a great sweater and scarf.  She looks great, right?

Many of you already know Marissa from RAE GUN RAMBLINGS.  She took a hello kitty top she made for herself years ago and finally figured out a way to wear it.  Didn’t quite look right by itself, but once she put a great belted black sweater over top and added red flats, she was able to rock it!

Elisabeth from I’MA WALKING FASHION CRIME is a rebel.  She’s wearing was she “shouldn’t” by mixing prints together to create this Fab look.  Who says you can’t layer a great striped sweater over top of a plaid button down and then glam the whole thing up with a string of pearls?  You go girl!
The lovely Jennifer from GIRL DEFYING GRAVITY embodies Drab to Fab perfectly.  That greay sweater she is sporting was sitting in the back of the closet for over 4 years until she layered it with a great long tee, rolled up the sleeves to a flattering length, and added the scarf.  Way to rock that sweater, Jenn!
The dear Katie from FOR LAUREN AND LAUREN thinks just like I do.  We did almost the exact same thing by adding a thick black belt and a red scarf to our tops.  Katie had owned this tunic for two years and never worn it because it was too boxy and boring.  She accessorized to turn drab into Fab.  You look great, Katie!
This has been so fun!  Should we do it again?  I'm thinking next Friday, same time, same place I will host a linky party for all of us to show how we outsmarted our clothes to make them (and us) look awesome.  Follow me here so you don't forget about it, and keep in mind as you create your outfits and photos over this next week if you might have one you could submit to "Drab to Fab".  Let your fashiony friends know about it too.  Let's keep turning Drab into Fab and giving each other ideas!
SugarandSpice
Let's give all of our Fab girls some blog love by commenting on how great of a job they did turning Drab into Fab.  Thanks ladies!!
Have a great weekend, everyone.
