Dear Emma

I have started writing letters to my girls as I think of doing so.

I can date them, tell them all about how they are at this age, and remind them of my love for them.

These letters can go in their baby books and they can find them later.

I'm sure us mothers could fill books with our thoughts about our kids!

When we have the inspiration, why don't we record it, right?

Here is the one I just wrote to my little Emma.

Dear Emma,

You are 17 months old, and you truly light up my life.

You greet me each morning with a big hug and a "Mammmaaa" in a most satisfied tone.

You gaze at me with eyes that express your comfort in my presence, your understanding of how much I love you, and your deep dependence on me in many ways.

You talk up a storm every day.  Just like your sis, you are starting to put whole thoughts together such as "Bye Bye, Dada", or "Bless you, Mama", or "Please more".

You have just mastered walking!  You started with your push cart, and now you take steps independently.  I'm so proud of you!  Just like your sis, you walked on the later side but talked on the early side.

You love to look through your books and pretend to read.

You can sing "Baby, Baby, Baby, Oh! . . ." clear as day.

You laugh uncontrollably when I tickle your armpits.

You enthusiastically point to and identify parts of my face.  "Eyes!"  "Nose!" "Mouth!".

You can't get enough of the movie "My First Signs" by Baby Einstein.  You ask for it by name.  "Signs? . . . Watch it?"

You fill in the blanks when we read books together.  You are especially good at "Moo, Baa, La La La" by Sandra Boynton.

You shove your food in your mouth like there is no tomorrow and love every second of it.

You try your darndest to keep up with Grace singing "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" - but you can't yet.

You adore this little white plastic coffee cup and pretend to drink your "coffee" all day.

You explore everything and anything.

You love to dance, wiggle, walk, and shake your booty.

You assert your opinion but learn quickly from correction.

You are the greatest "mother" in the world to your little stuffed baby doll.  You cuddle, rock, and kiss her just like a real mother does.

Much love all.
